What is a postal zone?

A postal zone, often called a postcode area in the UK, is a geographical region used by the postal service to help sort and deliver mail efficiently. The East London burst main affected fourteen of these zones, showing how widely the impact of a single infrastructure failure can spread across different neighbourhoods and even into Essex.
