What is a contract option?

Ezri Konsa's contract includes an 'option for a further year'. This means after his initial four years, the club has the choice to extend his contract for an additional year, usually on the same or pre-agreed terms. It gives clubs flexibility and helps secure a player's services for longer without needing to negotiate a brand new deal immediately.
