Explained in plain English

What happens if you lie to a judge?

Deliberately fabricating a claim, as Mr Gopalakrishnan did, can lead to serious legal consequences beyond just losing the case. This is known as perjury or contempt of court. Judges can impose fines or even prison sentences for individuals found to have lied under oath or presented false evidence.
