What causes a tsunami?

Tsunamis are typically caused by large, sudden displacements of the ocean floor, most often by underwater earthquakes. If the earthquake is strong enough and shallow enough, it can push a massive column of water upwards, generating powerful waves that travel across the ocean. The good news is the Sarangani quake didn't trigger this destructive process.
