What are flood risks?

Flood risks are the potential for water to overflow its usual boundaries, causing damage. The Met Office's forecast of a wetter autumn, driven by El Niño, increases this risk, especially from November. Flooding can disrupt transport, damage homes, and pose dangers, which is why the Environment Secretary advised preparing emergency supplies.
