What are 'election ploys'?

An election ploy is when a political leader takes an action, or makes a statement, primarily to gain an advantage in an upcoming election. Turkey's accusation that Netanyahu's actions are an 'election ploy' suggests they believe his motivation for the strike is more about winning votes than genuine security concerns.
