Explained in plain English

What are council tax bands?

Council tax bands are how your home's value is categorised for council tax purposes. There are eight bands, A to H, with A being the lowest value and H the highest. Your council then charges a different amount of tax depending on which band your property falls into, helping fund local services like the police.
