How VAT cuts work

When the government cuts VAT, it reduces the amount of tax added to the price of goods or services. For consumers, this means the final price they pay should be lower. Businesses collect VAT and pass it on to the government, so a cut reduces their tax burden too, which can then be passed to customers.
