Explained in plain English

How old is the Nobel Prize?

The Nobel Prizes were established by the will of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite, and first awarded in 1901. They recognise outstanding contributions in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature, and Peace. The prize for economic sciences was added later. This long history underscores the prestige of the award given to scientists like Deisseroth, Hegemann and Nagel.
