The Nobel Prize in Literature for this year has gone to Anne Carson, a Canadian poet, essayist, and translator aged 76. The Swedish Academy praised her "bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature". Carson, who holds Icelandic citizenship, will receive 12 million Swedish kronor, about £900,000, at a ceremony in Stockholm in December.
