How high is space?

There's no single 'edge' to space, but an imaginary line called the Kármán Line, 100km up, is often used. Below it, Earth's atmosphere is dense enough for aircraft to fly using lift. Above it, like where the Swift telescope orbits, the air is so thin that objects need orbital velocity to stay up, rather than wings.
