Explained in plain English

How do icy patches form at 2C?

Icy patches can form on roads and elevated surfaces even when the air temperature is 2C. This happens because surfaces cool faster than the air, especially overnight or in shaded areas. If the surface temperature drops to 0C or below, any moisture present will freeze, creating hazardous icy conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
