How do formations work?

Football formations are how a manager arranges their players on the pitch, like 4-4-2 or 4-3-3. The numbers show defenders, midfielders, and forwards respectively. A full-back like Balde fits into the defensive number. Different formations help teams attack, defend, or control the midfield, depending on the opponent and game strategy.
