How do assists work?

Assists are when a player helps create a goal for a teammate, often by passing them the ball just before they score. In the Golden Boot race, if players are tied on goals, the one with more assists wins. This means Lionel Messi could still win the Golden Boot even if he has fewer goals than Mbappe, if he makes more assists in the final.
