How are police complaints handled?

If you have a complaint about the police, it's usually handled by the force involved, who must record it. Serious complaints, like those about deaths or serious injuries, are referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC can also investigate other complaints if it's in the public interest, ensuring independent oversight of police conduct, which is important for public trust.
