Are there separate chess leagues?

Yes, but not in the way you might think. Bodhana's 'Woman Grandmaster' title is one of eight Fide titles, but only two are gender-specific. Most tournaments are open to all, and women can earn 'Grandmaster' titles too. This is why Bodhana's achievement is so significant, as she's competing in a mixed field.
