Explained in plain English

Are there really 14,000 satellites?

Brendan Larsen's photo shows 14,000 satellite trails, not 14,000 individual satellites. Many of these trails come from the same satellites appearing multiple times across the two-hour exposure. However, there are indeed thousands of active satellites orbiting Earth, with numbers rapidly increasing, making space traffic a growing concern.
