Zipcar to end UK service due to losses
Zipcar, the world's largest car-sharing company with over 650,000 UK members, announced plans to cease UK operations by year-end following formal staff consultations. The Avis Budget-owned firm posted £11.7 million losses in 2024 on £47 million revenue, citing rising electricity costs, insurance pressures, and challenging resale values. New bookings are suspended after December 31. The timing coincides with London's incoming congestion charge expansion to electric vehicles.
