Zelenskyy insists Ukraine will only hold elections after a ceasefire
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that national polls can only take place once a ceasefire with Russia and firm security guarantees are in place, dismissing suggestions of holding elections earlier under US pressure. Ukraine’s elections have been on hold under martial law since the 2022 invasion. Zelenskyy added that ending hostilities by summer could be possible if Moscow agrees to peace terms, but security must come before politics.
