Xi Jinping visits North Korea to keep Kim in check

Chinese leader Xi Jinping is visiting North Korea this week, trying to reassert his country's influence over its unpredictable neighbour. Beijing is concerned about Pyongyang's growing partnership with Moscow, especially after a mutual defence pact was signed in 2024. Western diplomatic sources suggest China wants to keep North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in check.
