World Environment Day: How Britain Measures Up on Climate Goals

On World Environment Day, Britain’s journey to net zero shows both progress and pressure. UK emissions have dropped significantly since 1990, helped by the expansion of renewable energy and the decline of coal power. The government has also set a tougher emissions-cutting target for 2040. However, sectors including transport, home heating and agriculture continue to pose major challenges on the road to 2050.
