Wind-up radios are selling fast in shops after the government told households to prepare for emergencies. At least seven models sold out at four retailers within two days of the new Be Ready checklist, which recommends a battery or wind-up radio, torches, cash, water and tinned food. Maplin reported torch sales up 284% and power bank sales up 106% in just a few days.
