Wildfire smoke can irritate lungs, especially for vulnerable people

Short-term exposure to wildfire smoke is unlikely to cause serious issues for most healthy people. However, smoke can irritate eyes, throat, and airways, causing coughing or breathlessness, especially for those with existing lung conditions. Young children and older adults are also more sensitive and should be careful if smoke levels are high.
