Why Your Microwaved Food Goes Cold Faster Than Oven Heated Meals

Microwaved food loses heat faster because microwaves heat unevenly, creating hot and cold spots rather than uniform warmth throughout. Unlike ovens, which heat food from the outside in allowing gradual, even thermal distribution, microwaves excite water molecules in patches. The surrounding cold areas then absorb heat from hot spots rapidly, accelerating overall cooling. Additionally, microwaves don't heat containers, so plates can't act as thermal reservoirs. The food's surface also lacks the crispy, insulating crust that oven cooking provides.
