Why Washington now vets AI before you use it
A June executive order means the most powerful AI models now get a government once-over before the public sees them. OpenAI's GPT-5.6 launched publicly on Thursday after a two-week limited release at Washington's request, mirroring the curbs Anthropic's latest models went through in June. Officials tested the models' hacking-relevant skills, and while Axios reported a green light, the White House denied giving formal approval.
