Crowds crossed freely between Spain and Gibraltar after midnight on Wednesday as three centuries of frontier checks ended. The cause traces back to Brexit, which left the territory's EU relationship unresolved, and to four years of negotiations that produced a UK EU treaty signed on Tuesday.
