Why Are White Working-Class Pupils Still Falling Behind?

More children could receive extra support if the report's proposals are adopted. An independent inquiry, backed by the Department for Education, published 24 recommendations on Monday after examining why white working-class pupils have the weakest results among England's large school groups. One finding showed 36% of white British pupils on free school meals reached Grade 4 or above in English and Maths GCSEs in 2025.
