What happened to Big Tech's climate promises?
AI is eating them: Google's emissions jumped 18% last year, its biggest annual rise ever, while Amazon's climbed 16% as both raced to build data centres. Google admitted the problem plainly, saying its AI buildout is 'accelerating faster than the grid is decarbonizing'. Both still hold net zero targets, 2030 for Google and 2040 for Amazon, but the gap is widening, not closing.
