Warm waters bring record octopus numbers to UK

Huge numbers of octopuses are now appearing across the UK, reaching as far as Scotland, changing local fishing and marine life. Scientists say these common octopuses, usually rare, first surged in 2025 off Devon and Cornwall because of warmer waters. This 'biggest bloom' ever seen means shellfish catches are down, but octopus fishing is now booming.
