VAT removed from electricity bills, saving households £45 a year
From 1 October, VAT will be taken off household electricity bills, a move by Prime Minister Andy Burnham to help with rising energy costs. The average bill payer is projected to have their annual expenses reduced by approximately £45 due to this tax cut. However, Ofgem, the energy regulator, is also raising its price cap by £60 to £1,723 annually on the same day.
