US scientists grow human brain tissue inside genetically-engineered mice
US neuroscientists have successfully incorporated functioning human cells into the brains of mice, aiming to test treatments for human-specific brain disorders. Researchers genetically engineered mice to lack their own cerebral cortex, then implanted human skin cells reprogrammed into brain-like tissue. The new model allows scientists to study human brain function in ways not previously possible, despite ethical concerns.
