US refunds $81 billion in illegal Trump tariffs

Following a Supreme Court decision declaring them unlawful, the United States government has reimbursed numerous billions in tariff payments. As of October 2025, the current fiscal year has seen $81 billion reimbursed, marking a substantial rise from $5 billion during the corresponding period last year. Most of these refunds happened in May and June, pushing the June federal budget deficit to $120 billion.
