UN urges Russia to halt strikes on Ukraine energy grid
Following fresh overnight bombardments that left multiple cities without power during freezing conditions, the UN has urged Russia to cease its strikes on Ukraine's energy grid. Warning that temperatures have fallen to minus 20 degrees, Volker Türk declared that the strikes on civilian infrastructure constitute a breach of international humanitarian law. Elsewhere, European Union leaders are meeting in Belgium for economic discussions, while industrial action at Lufthansa is causing widespread travel disruption ahead of the Munich Security Conference..
