UN report reveals foiled assassination attempts on Syrian leadership

A classified UN report indicates Syrian intelligence services have thwarted five suspected assassination attempts against President Ahmed al-Sharaa and senior officials within the past year. The assessment links several of the alleged plots to Islamic State operatives acting through intermediary networks, with two incidents reportedly aimed at Sharaa in Aleppo and Daraa. It also highlights a rise in extremist recruitment following the collapse of the previous regime, driven partly by militant backlash against the new government’s outreach to the United States.
