UK to introduce pay-per-mile tax for electric vehicles from 2028
The UK government has confirmed that a new pay-per-mile tax for electric vehicles will begin in April 2028. Fully electric cars will be charged 3p per mile, while plug-in hybrids will pay 1.5p per mile, compared with the 6p per mile fuel duty paid by petrol and diesel vehicles. Industry groups have warned the scheme could discourage EV adoption, saying it is too complex and unfair to early adopters.
