UK Retail Sales Fall 0.4% as Shoppers Cut Back Before Budget

Retail sales in Great Britain fell by 0.4% in September as households tightened their belts ahead of next week's Budget. Official ONS figures showed much weaker online, clothing and supermarket sales, with unusually warm weather also putting shoppers off buying winter clothes. Excluding fuel, sales dropped 0.7%. The fall follows a 0.7% rise in August and comes as consumer confidence slides amid rising living costs.
