UK research agency to end Jodrell Bank telescope funding

UK Research and Innovation confirmed on Monday it will end funding for the Jodrell Bank Observatory and its e-MERLIN telescope network. Observations at the Cheshire site, home to the Lovell radio telescope, would stop on 1 April 2028 unless new money is found, risking about 28 jobs. Scotland's Astronomer Royal, Catherine Heymans, said the cut damages British science and a site used by 3,000 researchers.
