UK lenders slash mortgage rates from today

British homebuyers woke up to the first real relief in months from the mortgage market. HSBC, Santander, Virgin Money and Principality Building Society have all announced cuts to selected fixed mortgage rates from today, with Virgin Money trimming some fixes by up to 0.45%. The moves come a day after UK inflation climbed to 3.3% in March, though Virgin is simultaneously raising some tracker rates.
