UK factories slow, but hiring hits two-year high. Why?

British manufacturing activity growth slipped to a five-month low in August as S&P Global's index dropped to 51.7. Factories increased staff numbers at the fastest pace in over two years due to rising production needs and better order levels. Firms also reported higher optimism for the year ahead alongside slower cost increases and lower price rises.
