UK energy bills rise 13% from Wednesday

Higher household energy costs will hit budgets from 1 July, with average yearly bills reaching £1,862. Ministers came under renewed pressure on Sunday to reduce energy costs after Ofgem's updated price cap increased charges, while Rachel Reeves rejected wide-ranging subsidies. Consumer energy debt has reached a record £4.8bn, and Good Energy said a gas reserve plan could save households £60 a year.
