UK creative sector rejects AI copyright plan
The UK government's preferred approach allowing AI companies to use copyrighted works by default has suffered overwhelming rejection from 11,500 consultation respondents, with only 3% supporting the opt-out system. Instead, 88% backed requiring AI companies to obtain licences in all cases before using creative works for training. The massive backlash from artists, writers, and publishers has forced ministers to abandon their tech-friendly proposal, with Science Secretary Liz Kendall promising new policy proposals by March 2026.
