The UK government has announced new legislation banning the creation and distribution of AI-powered nudification apps that generate fake nude images without consent. The ban, part of a wider strategy to halve violence against women and girls, targets the technology itself rather than just its misuse. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall emphasized that those profiting from such apps will face legal consequences, building on existing laws criminalizing deepfake creation under the Online Safety Act.
