UK and Switzerland hit hottest June day ever

The United Kingdom and Switzerland both recorded their highest-ever June temperatures on Thursday as an intense heatwave continued across Europe. The extreme conditions have been linked to rising medical emergencies and deaths, including a third child fatality in France. Authorities have also faced widespread disruption, with several nuclear reactors shut down because of high temperatures and schools introducing measures to help students sit exams safely during the heat.
