UK 54% Self-Sufficient, Expert Calls for Stockpile

Food policy expert Prof Tim Lang warned the British government to build food reserves. He stated the UK is unready for climate shocks or wars, risking population starvation. A December 2021 report found the country only 54% food self-sufficient. Prof Lang highlighted critical vulnerabilities in the system, where 131 distribution centres serve 94.5% of retail food, and urged new legislation.
