Two teenagers arrested with machetes in Edinburgh

Two teenage boys aged 17 and 15 were arrested on Friday afternoon after police received reports of people carrying bladed weapons on Rose Street in Edinburgh city centre. A photograph showed a young man walking with what appeared to be a large machete near other pedestrians around 4pm. Police including specialist firearms officers responded to the incident at approximately 2:55pm on January 16, 2026. No injuries were reported and enquiries remain ongoing according to Police Scotland.
