The world will now inevitably overshoot the 1.5C global warming limit set in the Paris climate agreement, the United Nations has warned. Its latest Emissions Gap Report says global greenhouse gas emissions must fall 18% by 2030 to keep the overshoot to around 1.7C and bring temperatures back down later this century. Current national pledges would cut emissions by only 5% to 8% by 2030.
