Two men on trial for spying on UK soil for China
Two dual British-Chinese nationals, Bill Yuen, 65, and Peter Wai, 38, went on trial at London's Old Bailey on Wednesday charged with conducting covert surveillance on behalf of Hong Kong and China. Prosecutors alleged the pair targeted pro-democracy activists living in the UK, gathering intelligence for Hong Kong authorities who had offered bounties of £100,000 for information on certain individuals. Both defendants deny charges of assisting a foreign intelligence service and committing foreign interference. The trial is expected to last up to nine weeks.
