Trump will talk to Taiwan's Lai Ching-te
This decision could significantly alter US diplomatic relations with China, as it breaks decades of established protocol. US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday he would speak with Taiwan's leader, Lai Ching-te, about a possible arms sale. Presidents from the US and Taiwan have not spoken directly since Washington recognised Beijing in 1979.
