Tories propose cutting jobless benefits for long-term claimants
The Conservatives intend to prevent individuals receiving long-term unemployment benefits from using these funds for alcohol, cigarettes, and gambling. Individuals who have been jobless for more than half a year would have their Universal Credit reduced by 30% and disbursed via a restricted "Back to Work" card. This scheme could affect about 350,000 people and save taxpayers around £538 million a year.
