Thames Water tackling 1,000 leaks a week as dry soil cracks London pipes
The utility company recorded 2,871 broken street-level mains in July, roughly double the total from the same month last year. England just suffered its most parched July since 1836, baking the capital's clay ground and snapping older lead plumbing. Even during normal weather, the supplier wastes 592 million litres of water daily through hidden underground faults.
